Tarmogoyf: We Need Diversity! Especially in the Graveyards!
Tarmogoyf is a Green Creature with a variable power and toughness. Its toughness is equal to 1 + its power, and its power is equal to the total # of the following card types currently in all graveyards:
- Artifacts
- Creatures
- Enchantments
- Instants
- Lands
- Planeswalkers
- Sorceries
- Tribal
Instants and sorceries are the lowest hanging fruit when it comes to getting cards into your graveyard (without doing any extra work) in order to power up your Tarmogoyf. Lands aren’t too difficult either especially if you use Fetch Lands. Artifacts are a bit tougher but if you have something like Lion’s Eye Diamond which provides some useful function when sacrificed, you can also use it to power up your Tarmogoyf while you’re at it.
This card can really shine against Blue decks that make extensive use of counterspells or Black decks that use a ton of discard spells (assuming your Tarmogoyf doesn’t get countered or discarded) since it’ll quickly get you a ton of card types in your graveyard. Besides, it’l be fun watching your opponent’s face when you play one of these after he/she just played a Traumatize on your library!

Final Thoughts
This creature has the potential to become 8/9 for only a casting cost of 2 mana if all 8 card types above are found in at least one graveyard. You may want to put this card on your sideboard and bring it out when you’re up against a blue control deck or a black discard deck.
