Auriok Champion rewards you with 1 life every time a new creature comes into play.  It also has protection from Black and Red which makes it immune to Shocks, Lightning Bolts, and Terrors and thus, difficult to directly neutralize as long as your opponent’s playing one of those colors.  Its casting cost of only 2 makes it very convenient to play early in the game.  This card makes for the perfect Sideboard play if your opponent is Red or Black or has a ton of creatures but you might want to include it in your main deck anyways if you have a ton of creatures or can generate a ton of tokens.
